W.E.L.L. has been retired, save for social media. Details and FAQ below!
Dear W.E.L.L. Members and Friends, July 6, 2013
This letter is so late in actually happening!
I want to be as open and honest as I have always tried to be with W.E.L.L. and all its various supporters. I haven’t ever tried to look more able than I am, so I won’t try now either. :-)
I am retiring W.E.L.L. as an organization. We did go on an unofficial (quickly followed by a slightly-quiet-but-official) hiatus. I was unable to maintain the group single-handedly, and unable to embrace delegating and sharing my vision with those who wanted to help. These are flaws from my personal life, and the situations I faced when W.E.L.L. came about in my life. W.E.L.L. had a variety of hands, internationally in fact, that helped, inspired, and volunteered their time and money to my vision. I cannot thank you enough for that. You shared my vision, vague and huge as it was, and gave your support to me wholeheartedly.
During the vision of W.E.L.L., we raised over $2,000 for a variety of feminist charities, empowerment, and education based groups. We formed a successful book club, a lasting pen pal program, and created a lively newsletter community/online forum. We performed two years of Any One of Us: Words From Prison for Vday. We hosted a wide array of events engaging the New Orleans community; raising awareness about LGBTQ issues, violence against women, breast cancer survivors, and women in the arts, just to name a few. We opened a chapter at the University of New Orleans. We met with community groups to discuss the betterment of our area for locals, particularly women/girls. W.E.L.L. networked with the New Orleans Hornets and helped plan the first New Orleans Slutwalk. We’ve made a difference in so many lives.
The amount of good we have done for New Orleans is beautiful. W.E.L.L. was powerful, because of our shared belief in a few core values. Equality, feminism, a zest for life, empowerment, growth: these are the foundations I built W.E.L.L. upon. Those continue to be my values, but now things are taking a new form. I will be working the next phase of my vision as a single agent. W.E.L.L. has not died, but has simply retired offstage, for a costume change, if you will. We took a hiatus and went backstage to change our costume. Presently, I am emerging in a new design, for a new song on the stage of life.
I invite you to continue to share in my visions. I start to travel in about three weeks, and plan to move nomadically for the next few years with my partner. I am going to be writing my Truth, and submitting for publication within the next two years. I am starting a vlog and a gaming stream, hoping for many more people like you to interact with me online while I take on these new adventures. Thank you for your past gifts to W.E.L.L., and thank you for coming along in the future!
